Good Morning Ladies & Gentlemen,
Here's the movies we've seen recently... gearing up for the big trip! May 29 – Blitz (2011) We were continuing Jason May-tham like pros & already working towards the next one… or January Statham… as we decided to start watching some of his filmography that we completely missed for whatever reason… and this one was on IMDbTV (or Freevee as it’s known now). This one is about a violent London detective (Staham) and his new openly gay partner going after a serial cop killer (Aidan Gillan). As you might expect, hijinx ensue… and I honestly really liked it! It’s one of those detective movies that so grounded yet so preposterous at the same time… that you almost think it’s based on a real story. I’d say give it a watch… or listen to our episode when it comes out… who knows when? Rating – 8/10 – Definitely worth a watch May 30 – Parker (2013) We then followed it up with a movie where Statham sorta teams up with Jennifer Lopez to get revenge on his former gang who left him for dead after robbing the Ohio State Fair! OF COURSE we’re going to talk about this movie… but again, it’s mildly grounded… but preposterous… and a little fun because of it. Michael Chiklis & Clifton Collins are part of the bad gang… we jump all over the country instantly from scene to scene… I think Parker has the Wolverine healing ability as I wasn’t sure if this takes place over the course of a week or a month or a year… check it out! Also on Freevee I believe! Rating – 8/10 – Watch it for Statham doing a Texan accent half the movie May 31 – Champagne & Bullets (1993) What happens when a lawyer with $40,000 decides to write, direct, produce, edit, star & SING in his own action movie?!? The answer is basically “The Room” as a 90’s action movie. Character actors Wings Hauser & William Smith chew up scenery as the wild card best friend & villain respectively… add a former centerfold love interest, a satanic cult, out of nowhere monologues, some of the worst fight scenes & singing you’ve ever heard… and you’ve got a movie that we deem worthy of sharing on the big screen at Brewvies in Ogden, Utah… which we did… and there were my mom, teenage niece & teenage nephews in the crowd… and I forgot exactly how much pointless nudity was in this movie… but they had fun!!! So glad that this movie was introduced to us by friend of the podcast Lucien Greaves, founder of the Satanic Temple!!! Rating – 9/10 – Look, this movie is terrible… but it’s fun to watch just how terrible it is! June 1 – Ninja III: The Domination (1984) The 3rd installment of the Cannon Films Ninja trilogy find the soul of a ninja transported into the body of a stunning fitness enthusiast / power linewoman & hijinx ensue! This movie has not only among the greatest cold openings in cinema, one of the most intriguing apartments, but easily the sexiest use of V8 that has even been imagined & is just an amazing experience to behold! Rating – 10/10 – It’s crazy fun… period. June 2 – Batman Ninja (2018) Speaking of crazy fun… what if I were to tell you that there’s an animated Batman movie that transports the Caped Crusader, four Robins, most of the Rogue’s Gallery of Villains AND even Alfred for good measure back to Imperial Japan? I haven’t even mentioned the amazing Japanese animation styles throughout… NOR THE SUPER INTELLIGENT APE PROTAGONIST!!! Do you ever feel sometimes like… a movie was made specifically for you? Rating – 10/10 – Definitely worth a watch just for the amazing animation. The story is… ridiculous & full of holes… but I don’t care. June 3 – Copshop (2021) A man (Frank Grillo) is arrested to hide from a hitman on his tail (Gerard Butler) and hijinx ensue at the local police department in this fun action romp that… basically has the feel of a 70’s action flick (which I love) and some incredible performances from Toby Huss (voice of Khan in “King of the Hill”) and others. Think Assault on Precinct 13 meets Smokin’ Aces or something like that? Yeah, we’ll go with that. Rating – 9/10 – I really enjoyed this movie… pretty dang violent & bloody but recommend if you can stomach it. June 4 – Dog (2022) You’ve seen him dance, now watch him direct! Channing Tatum is a former marine with PTSD whose friend passes away… and the family wants the friend’s bomb sniffing dog Lulu to be brought to the funeral. Well, his former CO puts him in charge of taking Lulu on a road trip in exchange for a referral (that he should be giving anyway… but whatever) and hijinx ensue as he learns to live again. Now, it sounds hokey as all hell, right? Well… it does certainly get that way at some points… but overall, it was actually pretty well done with regards to the emotional aspects of PTSD & zaniness in between to keep you from crying. Rating – 8/10 – Not my bag of tea… but I enjoyed drinking it. This next week, Izzy's mom & her friend are coming to visit so... what could we possibly watch? Find out next week!!!! Steve
